Powers ‘Golden Hours’ Makes Belfast Debut With Top Trad Line Up

Trad legend Sharon Shannon performs intimate trad session alongside emerging talent as part of Powers Irish Whiskey’s ‘Old But Gold’ campaign.

Over 200 music fans enjoyed an intimate evening of stories and song with trad legend Sharon Shannon and a stellar line-up of top talent in Belfast, at a special event created by Powers Irish Whiskey.

Powers is bringing some of the biggest names in trad together with emerging musicians for Powers Golden Hours – a series of intimate trad and storytelling sessions in celebrated pubs around Ireland.

Following the hugely successful first session in Dublin earlier this year, the second instalment of the Powers Golden Hours took place in White’s Tavern – one of Belfast’s oldest and most iconic pubs – on Thursday 28 September.

The series is part of the Powers ‘Old But Gold’ campaign, which proudly champions Powers’ long and rich history and its ability to stand the test of time, challenging consumers to rethink their perceptions of what ‘old’ really means in today’s world.

The night, hosted by local musician, Alana Henderson, began with performances from esteemed Belfast musicians, Brendán Quinn, John McSherry and Francis McIlduff, before rousing performances from up-and-coming talent, Susan O’Neill and Belfast’s own Joshua Burnside, building up to an incredible headline set by trad legend, Sharon Shannon.

Celebrating songs and stories that have been passed down through the generations, artists performed together and individually, showing how their craft is inspired by the past and present. Fittingly, headliner Sharon Shannon’s performance comes ahead of the release of her ‘NOW & THEN’ box set – a stunning retrospective of her illustrious 30-year career, due out on 27 October 2023.

Commenting on the event, Jessica Lynn, Marketing Director Ireland at Irish Distillers at Irish Distillers said: “Powers’ Old But Gold campaign celebrates the life experience, confidence, and self-assuredness that comes with age. Nowhere is this illustrated as well as within our vibrant trad scene, where legends and luminaries inspire the next generation to protect time-honoured traditions and techniques, whilst making their own mark. Through Powers Golden Hours, we are proud to hero established and emerging talent, and the iconic Irish pubs at the heart of the trad space, where shared traditions and passions are fueling a trad renaissance that’s connecting with audiences of all ages.”
