This week, we were joined by Scott Baigent – brewer and co-founder of Eight Degrees Brewing.
Scott had travelled up from Cork, spending a few days in Belfast to introduce local punters to some of his beers. Naturally, we thought a side of whiskey was in order – creating a few perfectly paired boilermakers.
We met a few beer and/or whiskey-loving guests in the popular Jeggy Nettle (Stranmillis Road, Belfast).
Scott and Joe talked about the beers of Eight Degrees, the whiskeys of Midleton and how they can pair together.
Our first pairing was Howling Gale Pale Ale and Jameson. A light and refreshing pale ale with the world’s most loved Irish whiskey.
Second up was Seisiún IPA alongside Jameson Caskmates IPA. The juicy citrus notes of the whiskey paired perfectly with the refreshing IPA.
Next up was Full Irish IPA with Redbreast Lustau – which turned out to be the audience’s favourite on the night. The punchy, full bodied IPA was perfect with the rich, sweet and full bodied character of Lustau. This was also Joe’s favorite!
Finally, we ended with Citra (a single hop IPA) and Powers Three Swallow Release. Tropical vs. tropical! Juicy, fruity character of the beer and rich banana and marzipan from Powers. This was a close second.
To soak up some of the lovely pairings we had an amazing spread of breads, cheeses and charcuterie.
A great night and fantastic to have Scott up to share some of his cracking beers! Give Eight Degrees a follow on Facebook.
